Becoming David Kennedy

A Gift

By the time I am the person I dream of being, I'm going to want to know how I did it. And maybe there's a young lad out there somewhere who will be interested too.

But I think more often than not, when people are asked how they've become who they are, all they really stand to offer is their best guess on how it all went down. An idea made in hindsight. Point is, I think that most of the time, people don't really know.

I think we often forget what it was really like to be ourselves on a certain day, or during a certain season. We have memories of former times, but we aren't those former people anymore.

So when I become the person I dream of being, I don't want to be fumbling at the mic, offering up some quippy little story about how I believed in myself, and anything is possible...

I want to just give people the receipts. Open the book. And let me people see for themselves.

Myself included. Because truth is, I probably won't have a clue either.

So here's to memory...to adventure...to love & heartbreak. Here's a to a life well-lived.

A gift to you and me.
